As the UK gradually emerges from what we hope will be our last ever lockdown, our focus returns to once again making plans for that longed-for vacation with friends, family and loved ones. And whilst travelling abroad certainly has its perks, one thing the last 12 months has certainly demonstrated is just how blooming beautiful our own country is.

The UK is host to some of the world’s most stunning areas of natural beauty just waiting to be explored and, whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic escape or a family looking for a fun-filled, adventure-packed coastal get-away, there is plenty to choose from.

But if you’re planning a summer escape, you’d better be quick – places are booking up fast. So, to help shimmy you along, here are our top five picks for the perfect post-lockdown staycation in 2021:

For the romantic weekend for two

For those looking for a peaceful, romantic trip for two where you can enjoy each other’s company undisturbed, the UK offers a plethora of options. Our pick? Why not go back to nature and cosy up in this charming lakeside shepherds hut, offering undisturbed views of the Worcestershire Countryside?

Ideal for ramblers and cyclists, it is also located near the picturesque market town of Pershore, offering independent shops, bars and restaurants as well as the Medieval Pershore Abbey. Planning a trip in August? Be sure to pay a visit to their award-winning annual Pershore Plum Festival.

For the friends or family coastal retreat

There are few places offering such a winning combination of views, five-star accommodation and activities to suit all, but Dartmouth on the Devonshire coast, has it all – and more. Sitting along the River Dart, this pretty historical town is home to the 600 year-old Dartmouth castle, offers plenty of boutique shops, bars and restaurants and is just a stone’s throw from Devon’s many beaches and hidden coves.

To make your stay extra special, take in the views at this stunning three-bedroom hillside Dartmouth home complete with hot-tub and the best views in the area.

For the perfect weekend with friends

Sometimes a cottage stay in the country with your friends or family is just the tonic to help you let your hair down in private, and after the past year, we can’t think of anything better to get the joy flowing through our veins. As it happens, we also have just the ticket!

This four-bedroom luxury secluded barn conversion near to the Worcestershire town of Redditch sleeps seven and is close enough to the town centre to enjoy a spot of dining or nightlife, but private enough to relax and enjoy your company in peace.

For the idyllic countryside retreat

For those who love nothing more than being surrounded by rolling countryside and pretty, old English village life, look no further than the Cotswolds. This vast area of outstanding national beauty is truly Enchanting and offers the best the country has to offer – views, dining – being home to multiple Michelin starred restaurants, fantastic walks and much more.

We can’t recommend enough a stay in this charming two-bedroom cottage in Moreton-on-the-Marsh, in the North Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. This Saxon town offers plenty to see and do, including exploring the surrounding area, the town’s many art and antique galleries and enjoying a spot of afternoon tea. You can even take in a spot of falconry at the nearby Cotswold Falconry.

For the perfect digital detox

After a year of numerous Zoom calls, Skype’s, Houseparty calls with friends and endless film and TV series, every one of us can be forgiven for feeling in need of a digital-detox.

If that sounds like you, then you’ll be pleased to know that there are options that allow you to go completely off-grid and just spend some time in the here and now as nature intended. Those that enjoy a spot of fishing will be particularly interested in this surprisingly modern Off-The-Grid Secluded Fishing Lake Cabin. If, however, you do fancy heading back into civilisation for, say, a meal out, the town of Evesham is just a short drive away.

If none of those take your fancy, there are plenty of other options to bring you your perfect post-pandemic staycation this year, but let’s be honest, this list is a pretty good start!
